Soon, we’ll be starting organized D&D play at AREA 52. We’ll be gaming on Wednesdays with more details coming soon. Our best guess is that game-time will be around 6PM and lasting about 2 hours per session. We already have an experienced DM lined up for the program, so now we just need players. If you would like to get into organized D&D play or if you’re a new player looking to play D&D for the first time, this is a great way to experience the world’s greatest RPG.
If you would like to sign up, you can post here, on our Facebook page, or come by the store. There is a hard cap of 7 players, but we can run with as few as 3.
Here are a few details about the program from Wizards’ web site:
D&D Encounters is our weekly Wednesday play program, geared for a casual play audience with short sessions each week. It serves as a great introduction to our main storyline events, and uses material right from published adventure product. Each session only takes 1-2 hours to play, so it’s easy to fit your game in after school or work. And each week there’s a new and exciting challenge. Jump in anytime!
D&D Encounters participants are supported in-store with kits that include player (faction) and DM packs. These packs come in a beautiful folio designed with your faction’s colors and symbol. When you arrive for your first session of D&D Encounters, you’ll choose a faction pack with all sorts of goodies contained within – blank character sheets, log sheets, table tents, special certificates, and more. Dungeon Masters will receive a pack themed to the storyline, containing items for their use.
We’ll introduce the Tyranny of Dragons storyline by adapting a portion (levels 1-4) of the first adventure, Hoard of the Dragon Queen, for play. This adventure adaptation will be available as a complimentary PDF for stores that schedule D&D Encounters, who can then pass it along to their Dungeon Masters. After you’ve finished playing that portion of the adventure, you can continue play by picking up the rest of the adventure from the store or play in D&D Expeditions.
HOW TO GET A GAME GOING
To play in the D&D Adventurers League, all you need is access to a few things. Check the resources page to download materials.
- The D&D Basic Rules, available now.
- The D&D Adventurers League Player’s Guide (or the Quickstart Guide), available now.
- A D&D Adventurers League Log Sheet.
- At least 3 players and one DM. (A legal D&D Adventurers League table consists of 3-7 players.)
- A place to play. This can be your local store (AREA 52!) or a public event (like a convention or game day). Some D&D Adventurers League games can be played at home or online as well.
If you’re a DM, the D&D Adventurers League is a great way to run D&D games without having to spend time creating your own campaign world or adventures for it. As a DM, not only are you a guide to weaving a fantastic shared story, you also act as an official for the table you’re running, providing your players with their characters’ experience points and rewards at the end of each session. Our adventures provide guidance on how to DM for the D&D Adventurers League.
D&D Encounters sessions use our official published adventurers tied to the annual storyline as the play experience, and you can get a complimentary digital portion of that adventure right from your store. In addition, running games at the store gives you access to great materials for you and your players to enhance your game. This is a great way to break into Dungeon Mastering for the D&D Adventurers League.
