New Comics – Feb 18

New Comics!

Need something to read while you’re home freezing with no Internet? (Wait, how are you reading this?) Here are some great comics coming out on Wednesday:

  • Batman and Robin #39 — Robin recklessly wrecks the room! (Try saying that 10 times fast.)
  • Bitch Planet #3 — The secret origin of Penny Rolle
  • Fables #149 — The end of Fables looms near! Is Rose’s betrayal inevitable?
  • Lumberjanes #11 — Mal and Molly sitting in a tree…
  • Mega Man #46 — Mega Man vs Break Man! It’s brother against brother as the Mega Man 3 adaptation reaches it’s climax.
  • Silver Surfer #9 — Silver vs Galactus! You’re going to need a tissue after this one.
  • Nova #27 — Carnage knows Nova’s secret identity. (Wait, didn’t he die in AXIS?) Anyway, ignore that, and enjoy the show when a Hulk joins the fun.
  • Wonder Woman — The Amazons have chosen a new queen that will rock the DC universe!

And those aren’t even the ones we’re highlighting this week! These are.

The 3rd chapter of the BLACK VORTEX!
With a schism forming within the assembled heroes, the youngest among them face the temptation of immeasurable power. Sometimes those with great power shirk their responsibility to use it for good, though. And with Knife and his new business partner looking to take back the Black Vortex, the group may have left themselves defenseless.

Uncanny X-Men #31

(W) Brian Michael Bendis (A) Chris Bachalo (CA) Kris Anka

As the fallout from AXIS continues, the Uncanny X-Men seem to be searching for an identity. Viewed as terrorists by some…as revolutionaries by others…as teachers by their students. If odd ones at that. But some don’t see the grey. For those whose world is black and white, the wrongs will add up…and they will see RED.

Silk #1

Silk #1

(W) Robbie Thompson (A) Stacey Lee (CA) Dave Johnson

Cindy Moon exploded out of her bunker and into the Marvel Universe when we first learned that she had been bitten by that same radioactive spider in the first arc of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. She then went on to save Peter Parker’s life (more than once!) and traverse the Spider-verse alongside Spider-Woman. Now, as SILK, Cindy is on her own in New York City, searching for her past, defining her own future, and webbing up wrong-doers along the way! Robbie Thompson (writer from TV’s Supernatural) fills this new ongoing series with his unique blend of antics and feels. Featuring stunning covers by Eisner Award winner Dave Johnson and interiors by future superstar Stacey Lee.

New Comics (Jan 14)

First things first. Remember, you can always see the list of new release comics on our website at

That said, this week is looking to be something special. There are lots of great comics coming out without even mentioning a certain sci-fi space opera. I had a hard time trimming down the list, but here is my attempt at some highlights:

All-New Captain America #3

All-New Captain America #3

(W) Rick Remender (A/CA) Stuart Immonen

I admit I haven’t been following the All-New Captain America (yet!), but any time you get a cover with the Captain punching out Red Skull (or close enough), you know the story is probably worth it. Here’s the blurb from Marvel:

This is it! The new generations meet–Captain America vs Sin, daughter of the Red Skull!  The truth in regards to the blood of equalization is revealed, but Hydra’s proliferation is too wide, there is no stopping them now.  Nomad stands tall against the ruthless might of one of Cap’s oldest foes!

Arrow Season 2.5 #4

Arrow Season 2.5 #4

Publisher: DC COMICS
(W) Marc Guggenheim, Keto Shimizu (A) Joe Bennett & Various

Ever wonder what happens in between the seasons of Arrow?

After battling a small army of Blood’s followers, the Arrow finds himself face-to-face with the Huntress! But what is she doing in Starling City? And why does she want Oliver dead??

Batgirl #38

Batgirl #38

Publisher: DC COMICS
(W) Cameron Stewart, Brendan Fletcher (A) Babs Tarr (CA) Cameron Stewart

More Batgirl? Yes. Please.

Things are going surprisingly well in Batgirl’s new life! But nothing good ever lasts long in Gotham City – and the other yellow boot is about to drop…hard!

Fables:  The Wolf Among Us #1

Publisher: DC COMICS (Vertigo)
(W) Matthew Sturges & Various (A) Stephen Sadowski, Travis Moore (CA) Chrissie Zullo

This is one of those rare cases where the comic based on the video game based on the comic is actually good!

Even before the first issue of FABLES, there were stories to be told, shadowy avenues to explore, and lives hanging in the balance! Bigby Wolf has seen plenty in his time as Sheriff of Fabletown…but nothing can prepare him for this…

It all starts with a simple domestic disturbance. But when Bigby learns that his old nemesis, the Woodsman who has an axe to grind, is part of the scene, things go downhill fast. And how will Bigby and Snow White keep their heads long enough to crack the case when they get caught up in a grisly murder mystery?

 Rat Queens Special: Braga #1

Rat Queens Special: Braga #1

(W) Kurtis J. Wiebe (A) Tess Fowler (CA) Roc Upchurch

Looking for your Rat Queens fix? The current run story will continue in a few weeks. In the meantime, here’s…

Before joining the Peaches, Braga was destined to become the greatest leader of her people. But a life changing decision proved too controversial for even her most devout followers. A former life paved on the bodies of her enemies left behind…what choice was worth losing everything?

Featuring guest artist TESS FOWLER!

 S.H.I.E.L.D. #2

(W) Mark Waid (A) Humberto Ramos (CA) Julian Totino Tedesco

The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D team up with Marvel Girl. That should be enough for you right there, but here’s Marvel’s take all the same.

Why has SHIELD agent Jemma Simmons gone undercover at the Coles Academic High School in Jersey City? Maybe it has something to do with the all-new Ms Marvel and the most dangerous lunch meal ever served.

and finally, a comic based on an obscure 1970’s Sci-Fi space opera:

Star Wars #1
